Helping develop tomorrow’s leaders today through higher education is a key element to securing a stable and progressive future – a future that we at Chesapeake are committed to achieving.

In 2010, Chesapeake focused $5.4 million of its charitable dollars to support educational initiatives and programming support for universities, schools, academic chairs, scholarships and other educational planning.

Established in 2003 as a college scholarship program for students from rural areas where we operate, the Chesapeake Scholars Program has grown to provide more than $2 million of the company’s educational contributions to help fund higher education for nearly 400 students at 34 colleges across 13 states. Chesapeake scholarships help recruit the best and brightest students to our industry. Scholarships are also awarded to students pursuing higher education in communities where we operate.

Who is eligible for the program?
We provide each university with a minimum set of criteria for students selecting the following career paths:

  • Engineering
  • Geology
  • Information technology
  • Land administration
  • Law
  • Natural Gas Compression
  • Business

Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, interest in the natural gas and oil industry and involvement in extracurricular activities.

How do I apply?
Each university has its own application process, and you should contact your specific university for application instructions. For a detailed list of participating universities and colleges, please click here.

Note: We do not offer tuition reimbursement or scholarship opportunities for current employees. The university is responsible for awarding scholarships to students that meet the pre-determined criteria. Children of Chesapeake employees are welcome to apply, however, they are not guaranteed a scholarship.
