Joshua’s Hope
In 2008, when two Chesapeake accountants learned that a boy they mentored lived at the nearby Pauline Mayer Emergency Children's Shelter, they began a grassroots effort called "Joshua's Hope" to help the nearly 75 abused and neglected youth living in temporary housing. Currently, over one hundred Chesapeake employees visit the shelter during their lunch hour or after work on a weekly basis to spend one on one time with a child at the shelter. Partnerships are made with organizations across the city to plan monthly birthday parties at the shelter that include special visits, such as one from the Oklahoma City Thunder's mascot, "Rumble." Additionally two drives are held annually on our company's corporate campus for clothing, toys, backpacks and school supplies. For several years each child living at the shelter has received new, clean clothes, a winter coat, a backpack full of supplies and a special toy to call their very own thanks to "Joshua's Hope."
