Named after Eagle Ford, Texas, the first well was drilled in the formation in 2008. A liquids-rich play, the Eagle Ford Shale’s productive area is roughly 50 miles wide and 400 miles long ranging from the Texas-Mexico border north toward East Texas. It has an average thickness of 250 feet.
