"Energy in Training" Intern Program

Chesapeake’s “Energy in Training” internship program is second to none. This program maximizes our college recruiting efforts and continually encourages students to enter the industry. Our interns are mentored by experienced professionals in every department, where each performs real work during his or her time at Chesapeake and receives hands-on experience while adapting to our fast-paced environment.
Last year, we offered 80% of eligible interns a full-time position and realized a 95% acceptance rate!
The 2007 summer internship theme is “Challenge Yourself – Find your Fit.” To start the program, Chesapeake hosted a kickoff party where interns were invited to mingle with each other, with our Chairman and CEO Aubrey McClendon, and with Hornets star, Chris Paul, NBA 2006 Rookie of the Year. Interns then participated in a mind challenge competition where members of the winning team received autographed basketballs from Chris Paul.
Our intern program is fun and educational. There are many challenging opportunities for growth in this program that you won’t find anywhere else. The interns assume actual responsibility on projects and are assured that their efforts contribute to the success of the company.
All interns meet our CEO to learn about the history of our dynamic company during a special orientation session. Everyone in the session has an opportunity to ask Aubrey a question – whether it be business or personal related.
Interns participate in three valuable “Chesapeake 101” Lunch and Learn sessions presented by senior leadership, which focus on our core departments: engineering, geoscience and land. These sessions inform technical and non-technical students about each department’s responsibilities and how the departments interact within our unique business.
Interns also have the opportunity to take a rig tour and see firsthand how our drilling operations work.
By the end of the summer, our interns have a well-rounded preview of what work and life is like at Chesapeake and our goals as an organization.
